Blended Family
I called Amy desperate for a way to help my family function because co-parenting with my husband (who was a new step parent) was not at all working. We had too many nights of arguments – both with the children and about the children – and everyone in the house was miserable. I carried a huge worry that I would have to choose between my second marriage and my kids. I spent most of my time at home tiptoeing around and running interference trying to make sure nothing would explode. I had read tons of parenting books, but none of them helped us harmonize our perspectives and form a single, positive path forward. It was clear that my husband and I didn’t have the collective skills to make our family what we wanted it to be – healthy, happy, and one which would bring joy to everyone involved. Luckily for us, my husband and I found Amy’s services and were able to agree to try Amy’s parent coaching. Amy’s ability to pull out differing points of view and be non-judgmental in her assessment of what was going on (feelings, thoughts, worries, triggers, etc.), and to then offer solutions enabled us to better understand each other and the boys so that we could communicate and work as a family. The coaching tools Amy used to help us reflect before and after each session, as well as the coaching conversations themselves really helped us stay on the path of changing our family interactions. Now, everyone in the house can breathe easier. While things are not perfect, they are improving and I have faith they will continue to do so. My husband and I are more aligned on how to address issues. I am able to relax and enjoy my boys more. My husband is too, which is an amazing thing. Most importantly, the boys are happier. They feel appreciated, and know we are both there for them. They now see my husband not as a threat, but as a big addition to their lives. It’s really wonderful to see. Parent coaching with Amy has been essential in this transformation. I have so much more confidence in our family unit now, and I am grateful.
